Designation Overview
- Current Status:
- Initial Designation: 573.12km2 - 4 municipalities: Jeungdo, Bigeum, Docho, Heuksan (May 26, 2009)
- Expansion: 3,238.74km2 - 14 towns and townships (March 19, 2016)
- Key Resources in the Biosphere Reserve:
- Ramsar wetlands of Jangdo and Jeungdo, Dadohae National Marine Park, Coastal Wetland Provincial Park
- Abundant biodiversity including natural scenic areas like Heuksan and Hongdo, and breeding grounds for seabirds
- Cultural practices of tidal flat utilization such as manual Bare-handed fishing for tidal flats, , salt farms, and aquaculture in harmony with nature
